The BBC HYS is overwhelmed by China praisers this time for the discussion of 60th anniversary.
Unlike the pre-2008 threads where China bashers were dominant.

That is how much people's minds have changed after the 2008 turmoils.
But the country itself did not change so much in merely 12 months' time.

Political reform is the ONLY way forward for the country to achieve its designated goals.
There is no iminent need for multi-party politics now but people are desperate for freedom of information and speech.

Empires come and empires go. China, with its abundant history of such things, surely knows this simple rule.
Playing boss and censor your employees are the best corporate practice to destroy a company more quickly than expected.
That's what happened in Lehman shortly before its final collapse.

Picasa (Google

6,No more working  from home!

代价就是 no more flexibility on working hours.
Doctor of Philosophy. I need it. And I deserve it.

Cancer Research UK!

Shell

My email to colleagues this afternoon appealing for earthquake donations

Dear all,

I may have bothered your work a bit and am sorry for that - but many of you may have seen, on TV or through the websites, the mountain-shaking earthquake in Sichuan, China and the heartbreaking tragedy happened there. The affected areas are some of the most remote counties in southwest China - living conditions are already tough let alone the current situation.

It's now 3 days after the Ritcher's 7.9 major shake but aftershocks are still coming. For 16 times the aftershocks were above 5.0 while the worst, a 6.5 one was just gone by, leaving the communication cut off again and more collapses.

Although the rescue response is quick and effort made has been huge, the 7.9 quake has claimed approximately 50,000 lives and countless injured and homeless. I am totally saddened, wordless to express my condolence to the lost and injured, many of whom were children, sitting in the classroom when the quake suddenly took them all away, with only schoolbags and endless sorrows left to their loved mother, father and friends.

Nearly the whole of my home country are donating whatever they can to help the traumatised people in Sichuan. Money and materials are needed by the devastated people to survive from the debris, to cure the wounds and to rebuild the homes. Food, water, a tent and some duvet may cost 10 quids to you but they mean a life saved with your generous support.

The normal Chinese people don't usually ask for help as we always think we need to contain our own difficulties without hassling others, unless absolutely necessary. But the ongoing earthquake is indeed a crisis for all living in that area and I would be really grateful if you can make some donations to the people needed the most. I will give my sincere gratitude to you, on behalf of the ethnic Qiang, Tibetan and Han Chinese people who are suffering the pains in the area.

There a number of ways to donate some money if you want. Here I'd recommend two, but I am not enclosing any account information in this email to prevent the message from being abused. Please follow the directives on the web address provided, or google if you don't trust the URL either:

a) the Chinese Embassy in the UK (http://uk.china-embassy.org/eng/), which has set up a dedicated bank account accepting donations. This is the quickest and most direct way that your help will reach the victims, and since it's not a professional charitable fund, there would be no loss in admin/maintenance. All money transferred to this account will be re-directed to the charitable organisations in affected regions. However if you find yourself confused about donating to governmental organisation you may well choose the other option.

b) the British Red Cross, China Earthquake Appeal (http://www.redcross.org.uk/news.asp?id=81083), which is the most convenient way to donate to the victims. Money donated here will be spent on emergency life support and medical cares of the victims.

Any other means of help are also welcome, or just some condolence in mind will help people with some relief...

Thank you for your awareness and attention to this letter and I would hereby wish you a lovely weekend.

Yours sincerely,
Xiaofan
